The Alzheimer’s Association® is presenting a special Dementia Care Conference in the Florida Gulf Coast Area. Residents in and surrounding areas of Highlands, Polk and Pasco Counties can learn key caregiver tools, tips and inspirations at no cost in three different Florida Gulf Coast locations.

      • March 21, at First Baptist Church of New Port Richey from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. (complimentary refreshments and offsite respite care provided; respite must by requested by phone and secured by March 1)

The conference is geared towards family caregivers, people with early-stage dementia, professionals and the general public. Continuing education units provided at no cost for nursing and social work professionals.

Keynote Speaker, clinical bioethicist Viki Kind, M.A. will share lessons from her journey as a caregiver for six members in her family. Kind is also the author of The Caregiver’s Path to Compassionate Decision Making: Making Choices for Those Who Can’t, - a helpful and proven guide to families and professionals who are making decisions for those who have lost capacity.

"This conference gives practical tools that caregivers can start to use immediately in their every-day lives, including proven tactics, ideas and strategies to manage difficult situations,” says Julie Shatzer, LCSW, Vice President of Programs, Florida Gulf Coast Chapter.

Attendees are provided educational opportunities, and community resources including respite care services.
